Per Mertesacker was clad in blood after a fierce duel with Gary Cahill during the first half of the Comunity Shield.
The Arsenal captain was hit over the eyebrow with the elbow of the Chelsea defender, followed by a long intervention by the medical team of the “balls” and then replaced by Sead Kolasinac. The injury seemed serious and his appearance against Leicester was being questioned at the opening of the Premier League, but Coach Arsène Wenger calm down the situation.
“I will have to talk to the medical team, but the injury does not look very bad,” Wenger said after the match.
Mertesacker himself looked well at the celebration of the Wembley win.
